Building Heads now Giclee edition.

This was a result of a late night fiddle with scissors, books and blue tack.  I made several images with these heads, especially the large one on the left.  On instagram (annewarrenart) I was asked by a follower for a Giclee print of the image so I made one and the rest is history.  Now these are very small prints on Arches Watercolour paper 300gsm in sepia.  Only 10 in the edition.  I will have them available at the November open studios event.  Let me know if you would like more information.

You can see all 5 (I think) in black and white on instagram.

Hope you like them.black and white 1 heads.jpg

Making an abstract assemblage from old work.

I painted a few small abstract artworks but kept remembering pieces of art sitting in folios.  I started using resources that I have looked at and passed over so many times and finally they have been the perfect resources for a series of four artworks.  Some works are 3D, some have ink, acrylic and or gouache paint.  See more at my website http://www.annewarrenart.com or instagram annewarrenart.abss

Workshops
Wed 9.30-12.30 Full   (casual vacancies are often available if you are interested call me)
Thursday 9.30-12.30 Full
–  Last Summer I had collage/mixed media workshops under the trees but right now I cannot do that to you as it is just too cold.    I have been asked about further classes so I am announcing two dates and times and will keep the classes indoors and limit numbers  to 5 or 6 people only.  This workshop will be suitable for beginners or more experienced.  It will include some new ideas and tips, sharing of ideas and meeting like minded people because everyone that likes collage has a little bit of crazy in them (myself included).
Sat  July 29th  11.00am to 2.00pm (3 hours $40)
Sun July 30th  11.00am to 2.00pm (3 hours $40)
Don’t forget to nominate the date you prefer.  If available for either date please write that you are flexible as it will make it so much easier.  Email me to book your place.
I will send you a short list of materials to bring along.  We can all bring along something small to share for lunch.

Painting and drawing and then drawing with scissors

I have been trying to formulate a new series of artwork in my head.  I rarely write down what my plan is.  The intention was to do some beautiful drawings on an abstract black and white background  (well at least I would have attempted to do beautiful drawings).  I just fell in love with the brush strokes and the mixing of black and white on the paper so much that I isolated what I saw with scissors.  I may rethink what I am going to do but I still would like to combine the drawing with the cutouts.  I have no idea how yet but I will try.

The apple painting was from a while ago but I thought I would share.  I have been teaching still life painting workshops to a few students and we seem to always do apples and the spotty bowl which is always a pleasing combination.

Blue and white still life, abstract and a stairwell.

The beautiful stairwell is from the Mail Exchange in Melbourne.  It is a historic building from the 1800’s that was open to the public this weekend.  Sorry about the colour which although the stairwell was flooded with light my camera decided to make it a rich cadmium yellow.  The beautiful still life is by Jan Wright.  Jan has been taking regular classes with me in still life painting.  Our first few paintings were completed within two sittings however this one took several more.  Well worth it I think.

I was fiddling with paper cutouts for assemblage and this is what I came up with – textures and pops of colour.   It sort of reminds me of a roll of fruit pastiles or lifesaver sweets in the roll – but abstract.

Art Workshop spaces for Thursday

I have a couple of openings for art workshops Thursday 2nd June and Thursday 9th of June for anyone that is interested.  .

Class times are 9.30am to 12.30pm at my Alphington studio (about 8km from the city in Melbourne).  Suitable for all levels.
This class can be either collage/mixed media or still life painting.  I still offer one on one classes to suit you.
Contact me if interested.

Can you tell I get a kick out of collage?

I like to challenge myself by selecting just one or two books from my collage bookcase to create collage images.  The abstract was just from one page alone – can you see the bedhead, blanket, pillow, childs shoe strap, and a couple of other things?  I often do not stick these things down, they are ephemeral and may turn up in a different image in the future – see the horse repeated.  Can’t do that if you commit with glue however  I was given a visual diary so I feel I need to fill it and I have kept a few of the above in it.

Workshops are still available – email me if you need details.

Building a tent with collage.

I have been holding very small (2-4 people) collage and still-life painting workshops in my studio on the first Tuesday and the first Thursday in each month.  Keep me in mind for the future and if those days do not suit I can do private one on one workshops.  Email me if you want to know more.

The images above are of the collage play that I tend to drift into late at night.

The still-life with pears are painted using some paint left to me by art students.  Simple but sweet I think.

The little village is a first entry into a visual diary for this year.  I am not a big fan of such things for myself but I thought I would start one and see where it takes me.  The tent was easy and a fun and fantasy thing to do.  As I have mentioned before many of these things no longer exist as it is just play and never glued down.  They may come up in a finished piece one day although it will be a totally different configuration.

Collage with fish and humans.

The fish and the human bend and flex so easily as one.

Taking bookings for Art Workshops in Melbourne.

Think about taking an art class with me on Feb 2nd or Feb 4th.

My next Still-Life Painting Workshop is on Tuesday February 2nd.  It is a very small class of only 3 people so you get lots of attention and information.  There is a materials list that I would provide for this class.  I have vacancies for the evening class Feb 2nd 6.00 – 9.00pm.

My next Group Collage Workshop is on February 4th 9.30-12.30pm and a later one at 6.00-9.00pm.  I still have some places available in both classes.  The classes will be for beginners, artists interested trying a different approach, those that have taken  a class before that are wanting more direction to consolidate and or make new artwork.  Email me warrener_@hotmail.com.
