Student/Artist work made at our workshops in Melbourne.

These were made just this week by three different artists.  Congratulations Galia for the striking collage of body/machine, Congrats Helen for the earthy abstract painting, there are human forms within this painting, I can see them, Congrats Jan for the abstract that we discussed as accidentally having cirrus and other cloud formations within it.

Great work everyone.

It can be quite difficult to change from observational drawing/painting to abstract and to collage.  My advice would be to keep it very simple, complexity, if needed can come later.  I do prefer collage to be easy to read and therefore with less distractions.  The focal point is usually a surreal image that needs to be absorbed by the viewer and this should be enough without clouding a work with things happening on the periphery.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Are you looking at collage headed Februllage via Insta?

I am having so much fun, sadly only a day left.  I have contributed several collages on my site and have been picked up by the initiators of this project being Scandinavian collage museum and edinburg collage something or rather.  You can see who they are in you look at my post hashtags.  Here is the latest offering I made to the theme Landscape.

Challenged to combine a dinosaur with an earlier collage.

I was challenged by Reader Leonie Andrews to combine one of my last ephemeral collages with a dinosaur. Hope you like it. Light rather than dark version.

Exhibition of Collage at Tuggeranong Arts in Canberra on now.

I have just returned from a wonderful trip to Canberra for the Opening of my Solo Exhibition – Mergence.  I loved Canberra including the National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Floriade, Arboretum, Glass Making Factory/Warehouse, Market, quirky Kendell Lane, Little Istanbul and numerous restaurants for delicious food.

The workshop I conducted was at the Arts Centre which backed on to the lake, so we dragged our chairs outside and had lunch with a view.  Beautiful time. Great people. x

I hope more people will come to see the artwork.  It is 3D collage assemblage.

Mergence was my response to an umbrella title Entropy.  Everything  fragments, everything disintergrates.  My selected subjects fragment and merge, histories merge, people merge, animals merge.  I would like to think that they successfully merge and are not too surreal to imagine.  A fisherperson becomes part fish part person.  Someone that loves their house becomes part person part house.  See more images on https://www.annewarrenart.com/

Late night collage nonsense in sepia.

This is one of 5 or 6 in a series I made from just two books.  They were actually black and white but I changed them to sepia digitally.

Just having a bit of fun with the cliche scale of people and objects.  I never tire of the absurdity of unexpected scale.

More of these on instagram annewarrenart.

These are not in Canberra but I will be in Tuggeranong early in October.  Please come along and see my exhibition.  Come and say hello at the Opening night  Thursday 4th October at 6pm.  black and white 5 bridge

Building Heads now Giclee edition.

This was a result of a late night fiddle with scissors, books and blue tack.  I made several images with these heads, especially the large one on the left.  On instagram (annewarrenart) I was asked by a follower for a Giclee print of the image so I made one and the rest is history.  Now these are very small prints on Arches Watercolour paper 300gsm in sepia.  Only 10 in the edition.  I will have them available at the November open studios event.  Let me know if you would like more information.

You can see all 5 (I think) in black and white on instagram.

Hope you like them.black and white 1 heads.jpg

Canberra Art Exhibition and Art Workshop coming soon.

It’s almost here.  Thursday 4th of October at 6pm if you are anywhere near Tuggeranong in Canberra please come by, say hello, have a glass of wine and you will see what I have been working on for my exhibition Mergence.

If you have an interest in mixed media or collage you will see I have a workshop on Saturday 6th October for beginners and or experienced artists using the collage methods and techniques that I use.

Making an abstract assemblage from old work.

I painted a few small abstract artworks but kept remembering pieces of art sitting in folios.  I started using resources that I have looked at and passed over so many times and finally they have been the perfect resources for a series of four artworks.  Some works are 3D, some have ink, acrylic and or gouache paint.  See more at my website http://www.annewarrenart.com or instagram annewarrenart.abss

Surreal 3D collage assemblage.

The newest series of works I have been making are assemblages or collages of found images of things that I love. The selected images merge with other things that I love which then become brand new surreal works in a new context. This is a work in progress, almost finished. I hope you can see the love and or tenderness between the two people as that is what made me want to put them both on a pedestal with an ecclesiastical framing behind them. The horse, bones and wood are references to their past and a link with the earth.
