Rio Olympics baby swimmer.

This is month 2 of Mason’s life.  So far he has been a flying superhero and now he is an Olympic Swimmer.  10 more months (one per month) of silly, surreal images to create.  Photographs and digital work assembled on photoshop.  Month 2 rio olympics

Blue and white still life, abstract and a stairwell.

The beautiful stairwell is from the Mail Exchange in Melbourne.  It is a historic building from the 1800’s that was open to the public this weekend.  Sorry about the colour which although the stairwell was flooded with light my camera decided to make it a rich cadmium yellow.  The beautiful still life is by Jan Wright.  Jan has been taking regular classes with me in still life painting.  Our first few paintings were completed within two sittings however this one took several more.  Well worth it I think.

I was fiddling with paper cutouts for assemblage and this is what I came up with – textures and pops of colour.   It sort of reminds me of a roll of fruit pastiles or lifesaver sweets in the roll – but abstract.

Some simple but meditative abstract paintings.

First picture is of Mayu a Japanese girl that stayed with me 6 years ago and as she was visiting  Australia she wanted to catch up with me.  We went to South of Johnston in Collingwood for lunch and then to Station Street in Fairfield for Greek cakes.  Delicious.  Good luck Mayu (she works for Korean Airlines and gets a lovely healthy discount for travel).

The abstract designs above just came to me as a bit of a challenge.  I had  blue splotches I painted on some brown paper bunting for my daughters baby shower (yes it will be a boy) and I didn’t want to waste them so I chopped them up and then assembled into the two blue artworks above.  The other one with red is actually not an assemblage but a small painting probably inspired by the earlier pieces.

One thing leads to another.

Little people in collage and a pug.

This is cute little 6 month old pug Juno I met at the park yesterday and fell in love with her.

I am doing a series of children taking on or morphing into their surroundings – space, birds, inspects animals etc.  I have only shown a small detail of this work as it is for an upcoming exhibition.

Here are a few works from Art Workshops recently.

It has been such a busy and fun few weeks with workshops.  I love sharing what I do and then watching the artists/students take it to their own style to make some of the above.  I was teaching still life painting workshops and collage/mixed media workshops. These are just a few of the works that I photographed.  I took some very poor quality photos and decided not to post them (sorry everyone).

I’m taking a little art detour and working on a mountain image in paint and or collage.

I live in a flat suburb in Melbourne Australia.  We do not have beautiful mountains in my suburb but at certain vantage points nearby you can see the outline of mountains in the far distance (albeit a little fuzzy).  I found a book on Antarctica in my op shop (thrift shop) searches and fell in love with the beautiful colours and an abstract impression I have of mountains.  I have been skiing twice and been on a snow capped mountain only four or five times.

I am still at the experimental stage of this project but I thought you might like to see what I am up to for a particular exhibition I am working towards.

My exhibition is continuing at Cambridge Studio Gallery until the end of the week.  See previous post for information.

Workshop in Collage and Mixed Media part two of the artist’s work for viewing.

Please note that the images below by the artists at NCAT Create are copyright and not to be reproduced.

Here are some more works from our workshop for you to enjoy.  As you can see we have extended collage from simple cutout images by including a background in ink or paint which was squeegied and further by cutting into circles for a different point of interest.  With very little time left several of the artists made some cutout abstract collage wall art.

Had a fantastic Collage and mixed media workshop with a group of artists at NCAT Create in Preston.

On Thursday and Friday I was invited to conduct a couple of workshops in mixed media (focused on three different outcomes) with a group of artists studying at NCAT Create at Northland. Please note that the images below are copyright and the property of the artists.

Here are just some of the images that were made using cutout found images with a surreal bent to them.

Hope you like them, I have more to come.  Love them.
