Late night collage nonsense in sepia.

This is one of 5 or 6 in a series I made from just two books.  They were actually black and white but I changed them to sepia digitally.

Just having a bit of fun with the cliche scale of people and objects.  I never tire of the absurdity of unexpected scale.

More of these on instagram annewarrenart.

These are not in Canberra but I will be in Tuggeranong early in October.  Please come along and see my exhibition.  Come and say hello at the Opening night  Thursday 4th October at 6pm.  black and white 5 bridge

Books, books everywhere with pages flying through the air, turned upside down and inside out for a series of collages.

I thought I had so very many books for collage that I had been giving them away.  I am now out buying up at op shops.  I get some strange looks from the people serving me as the selected books are so diverse.  My last big buy included: The National Estate, Australia’s Heritage, Album of a Nation, Australian Endangered Species, Florida, The Stockman, Black is Beautiful, One living as one and loving it, Orchids of Africa, Our Royal Family and lots more.  The image is important but almost as much is the quality of the paper that supports it.

From time to time I will post some of my work in progress.  Some of these make the cut and others do not.  These are details only.

I don’t remember all of the books in my collection for collage but last night I remembered a wonderful book about West Australian Wildflowers and of course I couldn’t find it for hours.  Books went flying when I was searching.  You know what it’s like I’m sure.  I remembered the spine, I always remember the spine (not always an accurate memory) was dirty grey and broken still didn’t help me find it any sooner.  Found it.   Next time my studio is covered in paper I will post a pic and you will see what a mess I am working in.

I want you to know that I always look up the books to make sure they are not rare or unique in some way because of course I would not cut them if that was the case.  Often books are kept on a shelf and not appreciated or loved by anyone and then a collage artist (maybe me) will come along and pull it apart to make a unique artwork that can be looked at and appreciated.

See more, including some workshop information at website http://www.annewarrenart.com.

Art, Workshops, Christmas.

I had an enormous year of art and exhibitions this year.

I was invited to exhibit at Holy Trinity in East Melbourne as part of the Eastern Art Festival.

I exhibited with the Out of the Box Group of Artists at Cambridge Studio Gallery.

I had the Alphington Open Studios in November.

I also arranged a fundraiser for several of my art workshop regulars.  It was their first time exhibiting so I let them pick the charity which of course made them work harder.  I then encouraged them all to bring along 5 or 6 friends each to the opening.  We almost had a sell out, plus a couple of commissions for future work.  The charity was for the Tiwi Island Girls Football Team.  They have to travel long distances to play so our efforts helped their travel fees.

I’m hoping for an exhibition with a couple of wonderful artist friends in 2018.  A bit early to tell you much about that.  I am keen for you to see my new website annewarrenart.com as it will have information about workshops and exhibitions which may be of interest.  Please have a look and stay in touch.

Here are a few pics from this year.  By the way I love the snow in December on this site even if it is really really hot here.

See below my Christmas Card for you.  Merry Christmas.  xx

–  Last Summer I had collage/mixed media workshops under the trees but right now I cannot do that to you as it is just too cold.    I have been asked about further classes so I am announcing two dates and times and will keep the classes indoors and limit numbers  to 5 or 6 people only.  This workshop will be suitable for beginners or more experienced.  It will include some new ideas and tips, sharing of ideas and meeting like minded people because everyone that likes collage has a little bit of crazy in them (myself included).
Sat  July 29th  11.00am to 2.00pm (3 hours $40)
Sun July 30th  11.00am to 2.00pm (3 hours $40)
Don’t forget to nominate the date you prefer.  If available for either date please write that you are flexible as it will make it so much easier.  Email me to book your place.
I will send you a short list of materials to bring along.  We can all bring along something small to share for lunch.

Building a tent with collage.

I have been holding very small (2-4 people) collage and still-life painting workshops in my studio on the first Tuesday and the first Thursday in each month.  Keep me in mind for the future and if those days do not suit I can do private one on one workshops.  Email me if you want to know more.

The images above are of the collage play that I tend to drift into late at night.

The still-life with pears are painted using some paint left to me by art students.  Simple but sweet I think.

The little village is a first entry into a visual diary for this year.  I am not a big fan of such things for myself but I thought I would start one and see where it takes me.  The tent was easy and a fun and fantasy thing to do.  As I have mentioned before many of these things no longer exist as it is just play and never glued down.  They may come up in a finished piece one day although it will be a totally different configuration.

Little people in collage and a pug.

This is cute little 6 month old pug Juno I met at the park yesterday and fell in love with her.

I am doing a series of children taking on or morphing into their surroundings – space, birds, inspects animals etc.  I have only shown a small detail of this work as it is for an upcoming exhibition.

Collage with fish and humans.

The fish and the human bend and flex so easily as one.

Taking bookings for Art Workshops in Melbourne.

Think about taking an art class with me on Feb 2nd or Feb 4th.

My next Still-Life Painting Workshop is on Tuesday February 2nd.  It is a very small class of only 3 people so you get lots of attention and information.  There is a materials list that I would provide for this class.  I have vacancies for the evening class Feb 2nd 6.00 – 9.00pm.

My next Group Collage Workshop is on February 4th 9.30-12.30pm and a later one at 6.00-9.00pm.  I still have some places available in both classes.  The classes will be for beginners, artists interested trying a different approach, those that have taken  a class before that are wanting more direction to consolidate and or make new artwork.  Email me warrener_@hotmail.com.

Wonderful playful images in collage.

I conducted a small workshop in Mixed media/collage for three people this morning and just look at these creative whimsical images.  Each of the artists made two fully finished pieces on prepared surfaces of acrylic paint and ink.  Congratulations Alison D, Helen B and Jenny M for having an open mind and letting your intuitive side take over.  Sometimes it is so much better to keep things simple and pull back on all the cut elements.  If somethings works and reads well with just two cut images then just let it be.  I think there is an interesting story in each of the images made.  Hope you enjoyed yourselves.

Next group classes will be Feb 4th for mixed media collage (only 4 people for this class) and Feb 2nd for Still-life painting (only 3 people for this class).  Please contact me if interested in consolidating your skills or learning new ones in a friendly relaxed environment.  Private classes also available to suit.

Art Workshops in Melbourne

Just wanted to alert you to some new group workshops in still-life painting and in collage/mixed media.

In the past I offered one on one classes only however I am now able to offer  small group workshops over 3 hours at a reduced price.  In three hours we can cover a lot more and in the middle of it all we can have a break for coffee tea and biscuits.  Having other people alongside you is also a benefit for inspiration.

I am trying to make it simple and memorable:

Still-Life Painting in Acrylic the first Tuesday in every month

Collage/Mixed Media on the first Thursday in every month
